Hoa mai vàng Yên Tử

Đến Yên Tử mùa này, bạn có còn dịp trải lòng hòa quyện với cảnh vật thiên nhiên, được ngắm và hít thở thứ hương thơm lan tỏa đến nhẹ nhàng và thanh khiết từ một loài hoa có tên là mai vàng. Hoa Mai vàng Yên Tử độc đáo, tượng trưng cho sự cao thượng, vinh hiển, cao sang và may mắn.

Tương truyền câu chuyện rằng, thời đó Phật hoàng Trần Nhân Tông đã mang theo giống mai tôn quý thanh cao này về trồng. Có lẽ vì thế mà mai ở Yên Tử còn được gọi là “đại lão hoàng mai”. Các điểm có nhiều mai vàng như thác Vàng, thác Bạc, khe Chè, dốc Hẩy. Những cây mai vàng cổ thụ vươn cao chọc trời, tỏa mùi hương thơm phảng phất và khoe sắc vàng rực giữa chốn núi rừng xanh thẳm.

Tại đây, người ta có thể bắt gặp những cây mai cao đến 15 mét, đường kính thân 60-70cm và có rất nhiều cành. Theo những nghiên cứu gần đây của Viện Khoa học Nông nghiệp Việt Nam, thì cây mai vàng Yên Tử và cây mai vàng miền Nam đều thuộc cùng một loài (tên khoa học là Ochna integerrima), đây là loại mai có 5 cánh, lộc màu xanh. Cánh hoa có màu vàng tươi rất sáng và có mùi thơm nhẹ đặc trưng rất dễ chịu. Trên một cành có rất nhiều hoa. Kích thước hoa không lớn, đường kính khoảng 2 - 3cm. Sự khác biệt lớn nhất mà người yêu thích mai vàng Yên Tử quan tâm là khả năng sinh sống và nở hoa trong điều kiện khí hậu có nhiệt độ lạnh của miền Bắc.

Chính điều này đã tạo nên những đặc điểm về hình thái, hương thơm và thời điểm nở hoa khác hẳn so với các giống hoa mai vàng ở phương Nam. Truy tìm trong sử liệu, những công trình nghiên cứu khoa học, lịch sử, văn hóa về di tích danh thắng Yên Tử có rất nhiều, song, hầu như không có tài liệu chính thức nào nói về loài mai vàng rất quý tại Yên Tử, mọc thành rừng. Chỉ nghe dân gian tương truyền rằng, khi lên núi Yên Tử tu hành, Phật hoàng Trần Nhân Tông đã phát động các tín đồ Phật tử trồng cây mai vàng. Sau nhiều năm được bàn tay các Phật tử chăm sóc, cùng với sự ưu ái của thiên nhiên, những cây mai nhỏ bé đã biến thành rừng mai rộng lớn.  

Trở lại những bài thơ viết về hoa mai của các thi nhân đời Lý-Trần, trong câu thơ đầu của bài thơ Tảo mai 1 (Hoa mai sớm kỳ 1) được nhà thơ Trần Lê Văn dịch:

“Năm cánh hoa tròn, vàng nhị phô

Nổi nênh vảy cá, chìm san hô”. 

Như vậy, “vàng nhị phô” là một chi tiết chứng tỏ hoa mai trong thơ văn Lý - Trần là mai vàng. 

Từ tất thảy những bằng chứng trên đủ để khẳng định rằng: cây mai vàng được trồng phổ biến ở miền Bắc từ cách đây trên dưới nghìn năm. Theo tôi, có thể mai vàng phát tích từ phương Bắc, rồi sau đó mới di thực vào Nam.

Ngày nay, cây mai vàng trở thành “đặc sản” từ Huế trở vào miền Nam, nhưng vì đâu mà chúng “đoạn tuyệt” với người dân miền Bắc và chỉ còn sót lại khu biệt ở rừng sâu Yên Tử thì đây là điều mong đợi các nhà khoa học nghiên cứu.
